Visiting Kenya: Two Weeks Itinerary Travel Adventure. You can download my complete list of SAFARI CHECKLIST for FREE
With so many “must see” places in Kenya, 14 days is too short to see them all. But, this itinerary gives you a good start to make practical and effective use of your time.
If you have extra money and time to splurge, you can make arrangements and continue your adventure in Kenya or head down to Tanzania, Uganda, or Rwanda.
Here is your two-week itinerary for visiting Kenya. You can also download my complete list of CARRY ON ESSENTIAL CHECKLIST.
You will probably fly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport located at the capital city of Nairobi, Kenya. If you’re coming from the USA, you’ll most likely fly via Dubai, Amsterdam, or London.
If you’re flying from Seattle, I recommend taking Emirates airlines and spending a day or two exploring Dubai. Here are my experiences in Dubai
Day 1/First day: Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi
I highly recommend staying at Sankara Hotel for two or three days. Make arrangements with the hotel for an airport transfer. Considering that you will be tired and jet lagged, spend a low key first night at the hotel’s roof top bar.
Day 1 Explore Nairobi, Kenya neighboring town and activities
- Visit Giraffe Center
- David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (elephant orphanage)
If you’re not too tired and looking for some nightlife experience, check out Alchemist Club or 40 over forty club. Click here to find all the best night clubs to go to in Nairobi Kenya
Day 2 in Nairobi, Kenya
Either visit a tea/coffee farm and see how it processed or opt to go to downtown Nairobi and explore. Then take an hour and a half trip to Naivasha, Kenya. Check-in at Enashipai Resort & Spa and have a relaxing evening at the hotel. Ideally, I recommend that spending three days in Naivasha would be just right.
Day 3 in Naivasha, Kenya
Take a boat ride at Lake Naivasha and witness the famous Naivasha hippos in their natural habitat. Then take a nice relaxing nature walk at Crest Island or visit hells gate. When we visited Crest Island in April of 2019, it hadn’t rained in a long time so most of the animals had wandered off the island. We didn’t get to see a lot of animals and we wished we had gone to hells gate instead. Nevertheless, the view from the island was great.
Day 4 in Naivasha, Kenya
Go to a mini game drive to Hell’s Gate National Park and see the cliffs and the gorge.
Then stop at Kikopey, a great place to meet and mingle with locals and enjoy what they eat, Nyama Choma (Kenyan grilled meat) with a beer/soda. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and escape to catch the sunset. Still full of wild energy? Dance the night away at the hotel’s night club, Wave. We skipped going to the club as we were so tired and still jetlagged.
Day 5 in Nakuru, Kenya or Naivasha
Drive to Nakuru, an hour and a half road trip, and explore what the city has to offer. Be sure to stop at the lookout spot on your way. Once in Nakuru, be sure to dine where the locals eat and maybe go to the open market and enjoy a fresh squeezed smoothie/juice and a fruit salad. Later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel Enashipai in Naivasha, Kenya just in time to catch the sunset.
If you don’t want to go on a road trip, you can explore what’s close to the hotel—a nearby flower farm with its collection of roses, or ride a horse, or if you play golf, try the nearby Naivasha Sports Club’s nine-hole golf course.
Day 6
You can choose to either sleep in or wake up early and watch the sunrise at Lake Elementaita, just a few minutes’ drive from your hotel. Check-out from your hotel, in this case Enashipai Resort, and head to Safarilink loidain airport to fly to Masai Mara, the world cup of wildlife.
Fly from Naivasha to Masai Mara Kenya via Safarilink to Kichwa Tembo
I also recommend staying at Kichwa Tembo in Maasai Mara for two days minimum. Click here to see my Safari experience at Maasai Mara
After an adventurous two days immersed in nature at its purest, it’s time for some relaxation on the beach. Fly back to Nairobi, Kenya from Masai Mara then to Diani Beach on the Indian Ocean for a total of six days, yes almost a week enjoying the beach life. Actually, we came to learn later that there is direct flights from Maasai Mara to Diani beach instead of flying via Wilson airport in Nairobi.
Maji Boutique Hotel is one of my favorite hotels to unwind. It’s small, intimate and adults only, hence the perfect place to end your vacation with your partner. Spending four days here will make you feel like royalty.
If you are one who prefers to relax at the beach with a drink in one hand and a book in the other, Maji Boutique Hotel is located right on the beach with a breathtaking view of the Indian ocean. Their outstanding staff go above and beyond to make your stay special and truly memorable.
If you enjoy activities and like to be on the go, there are lots of activities close to Maji Boutique Hotel. Just five minutes from the hotel you can go golfing for 18 holes. You probably want to do this early in the morning or late in the afternoon as it gets quite hot mid-day.
And yes, the front desk would be more than happy to make arrangements on your behalf for all the extra activities you might be interested in. Here are some other activities and excursions you could do or go to and explore. Click here to see my experience at The Maji Boutique hotel in Diani beach, Kenya.
After four days of royal treatment, head to The Sands at Chale Island Hotel. A great destination to unwind and end your trip in Kenya. One thing I highly recommend is to go on a walk and explore what the island has to offer. We stumbled on this private beach area where we pretty much had it to ourselves. After your two days on the island, it’s sadly time to say goodbye. I will be adding a link here of my experience at The Sands at Chale Island
Drive back from The Sands at Chale Island to Diani Ukunda airport to catch your flight back to Nairobi. We had actually made arrangements with Maji for us to have our lunch there which worked perfectly. The Safarilink flight normally arrives at the Wilson airport at arrive at 1710 p.m but our flight was delayed /late and we didn’t arrived in Nairobi until 6:00pm.
Two options. Enjoy a nice meal from your hotel or a restaurant of your choosing in Nairobi, then catch your flight out from Jomo Kenyatta International airport to “home.”
Or, you can choose to spend one more night in Nairobi. My friends and I choose to stay at the Sankara Hotel where we enjoyed a great ending to our trip. We spent the time reminiscing on the good times before we said our goodbyes.
ProTip: Since your flight the following day won’t take off until late evening, request a late checkout and enjoy your last day relaxing at the hotel. Later that evening you can catch your flight back.
