Your Ultimate Travel Guide to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

We stayed at Live Aqua Boutique Resort, an all-inclusive, adults only, 5-star hotel with an outdoor pool and chic sun terrace. I had pre-arranged with the hotel for an early check-in and oh boy, it was well worth it.

We spent the day in Playa Del Carmen because we wanted to be close to Rio Secreto, which is a hiking and swimming excursion 15 minutes’ drive from Playa Del Carmen. If you are planning on travelling to Playa Del Carmen or Tulum Mexico, Rio Secreto is a must as it’s one of the best kept secrets on the Yucatan Peninsula. I also wanted to compare the beach in Playa Del Carmen with the beach in Tulum Mexico.

Here is what we ended up doing in Playa Del Carmen.

We arrived at Live Aqua Boutique Resort at 7:30 a.m. Had an early breakfast and then, exhausted from the red eye flight, we caught an early 3-hour power nap. Afterwards, we chilled at the hotel rooftop infinite pool with a splendid view of the Caribbean Ocean until one in the afternoon.

We walked the vibrant 15th Ave and exchanged money at a booth located on the street. Then walked the Playa Del Carmen Beach, which is a quick 10-minute walk from the hotel, followed by drinks at the Dirty Martini Lounge.Then enjoyed dinner and chilled at the hotel before hitting the sack early, excited to imagine what the next day had in store for us

ProTip: Arrange an early check-in at Live Aqua Boutique Resort for only $35, it’s totally worth it. Make sure your room is not on the 2nd floor close to the kitchen area! It’s too noisy. Our room was directly above the kitchen area and it got noisy from 2 a.m., which made it hard to fall asleep.
