Excitement From The Unknown, Diani BeachDiani Beach

If you enjoy real adventure, great world hotels, and fascinating travel stories, visit Diani Beach in Kenya East Africa.

I returned from visiting Kenya in April 2017 and I want to share with you my travel highlights and tips. Whether you are in Kenya for a week or one month, here is a guide for getting the most from the experience and avoiding disappointments.

If you have the time, I recommend a 3-to-4 week vacation in Kenya for an adventure you’ll never forget. Here are my suggestions to pick and choose from.

  1. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) airport, head straight to Sankara Nairobi Hotel. Spend 2-3 days in Nairobi, Kenya, which will help overcome jetlag and slowly get you in the swing of African time in Nairobi.
  2. Fly from Wilson Airport Nairobi to Ukunda Airstrip in Diani beach. Spend 2-3 nights at Maji Boutique hotel, which offers top-notch customer service and a free dinner concept, so you can decide where and what time you want to have your meals. I found the food to be delicious. You’ll be in good hands as Zipporah and the team go above and beyond.Diani BeachDiani Beach
  3. From Maji hotel drive to Chale Island, about a 45-minute drive. Spend 2-3 nights at the Sands of Chale Island. This is a truly over-the-top getaway with a mix of options. The island is breathtakingly beautiful. You can explore the secluded island’s white sand beach or take a nature walk in the remarkably unspoiled forest.

4. Fly back to Nairobi on a Saturday evening, and spend the night either at Sankara or Tribe, but be sure to experience the nightlife entertainment.5. Spend your mid-morning 11-12 at the David Shedrick Wildlife Trust. Sunday traffic is usually light. From here, you either drive straight to Naivasha or make a quick stop at Maasai Market which is usual at KICC.6. Drive from Nairobi to Naivasha. Stop at Kikopee for Nyama Choma (BBQ meat). Spend the night at Great Rift Valley Lodge, Naivasha Sopa Lodge or Enashipai Resort & Spa. Start your morning fresh by talking a walk at Crest Island accompanied by an expert resident naturalist after which you will embark on a boat ride at Lake Naivasha where you’ll see hippos in the water.7. Drive from Naivasha and head to Kisumu, about a 4.5 hours’ drive. And yes, the drive is well worth it. Spend 2-3 nights in Kisumu (any hotel), be sure to stop and shop at the Maasai Market, where prices are quite reasonable and the art and crafts are made by local craftsmen/women.8. From Kisumu, you can now choose to go see your family and friends, or head back to Nairobi, say good-by to your adventure, and take your flight back home.
